The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation is growing a food revolution from the ground up!
The national program is changing the way children approach and think about food. All around the country, children are enthusiastically getting their hands dirty and learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal food.
The fundamental philosophy that underpins the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is that by setting good examples and engaging children’s innate curiosity, as well as their energy and their taste buds, we can provide positive and memorable food and gardening experiences that will form the basis of positive lifelong eating habits.
At Murrabit Group School, we have a thriving garden area where students plant seeds and grow an abundance of fresh produce. Our school also has chickens, their eggs regularly used in cooking activities. To reduce waste, students give garden and food scraps to the chickens, creating a sustainable cycle. Every fortnight, they use the fresh produce they have grown to cook delicious meals, cakes or relishes.
